Last week, we had Scarlet from MASH Zine ask Big Richard artist Kipper some questions for our new "INTRODUCING" series on the site. Have a read through & get to know our artists!
WHAT'S YOUR FAVOURITE CEREAL?
Rice Krispies all the way.
WHERE ARE YOUR FAVOURITE VENUES / SPOTS TO VISIT?
Hm, SET in Dalston is cool, only been there once but it captured my heart straight away, very intimate. The Dome in Tufnell park is another nice place, I saw Twin Peaks and DEHD there, sweaty as fuck, memories from the show are very hazy to say the least.
IF KIPPER GILLESPIE WERE TO TOUR, WHAT COUNTRY WOULD BE #1 ON THE LIST?
Honestly, if I were to think “I’d like to tour there cause I feel they’ll enjoy the music” it’d probably be England, orrrr the U.S, but Ireland also. I don’t know, honestly. I really want to visit Russia; I’d play there, too.
DESCRIBE YOUR MUSIC IN 3 WORDS
Trying awfully hard.
DO YOUR SONGS HAVE SPECIFIC THEMES RUNNING THROUGH THEM?
Lyrically yes they do (queue the violins), I tend to write a lot about being a bit of an anxious wreck at the moment, the instrumentals tend to give off that vibe too and that’s what I tend to lean towards, often unintentionally, I’m a bit obsessed with the sad-happy grungey poppy rock stuff from the mid 80s/90s it’s a bit of a recurring sound for me at the moment. Although, I do have songs about the world I’ve found myself in, and a lot about people in general, social media etc etc is a topic I tend to talk about more often than never. But yeah, no specific, coherent themes as of yet.
WHAT'S NEXT FOR KIPPER GILLESPIE?
Complete the band, I found a guitarist last night so that’s good. I’ve very recently just moved to London, and there are some venues getting people in to play, I’d like to keep it simple for the time being, stringed instruments only, it’ll take some time and prepping to muster up the courage to do a one man one guitar sorta set. I’ve also got a single coming out soon, looking forward to getting that out.
